Update August August 2, 2016:

While Dory continues to work on coming out of her shell, she has some hesitation towards men. Dory is not completely trusting and would do best in a home where she can learn to be herself and learning to trust others. Dory's ideal home would have another dog to play with, quiet space, and female humans while she warms up to others!

Update July 28, 2016
Miss Dory is finally becoming more outgoing.  She is still scared, but has been coming out of her kennel to see us more each day.  She has also been leaving the small fenced portion of my yard to run in the open part several times a day.  She doesn't go far and just runs around my yard for a bit then she lays there.  She loves other dogs and tries to encourage my dogs to play with her.  Dory would do best with another dog, as she looks to them for cues on what she needs to be doing.  She is also starting to come when she is called and doing better on walks, when walking behind another dog.   With time and patience she is going to be a fantastic companion.

Update July 16, 2016
Dory is an sweet marshmallow of a dog.  She been with my family for a week now and she definitely still prefers to be in her kennel or behind the fenced portion of our yard.   You can tell the poor girl has spent way too much time in a kennel.  Since she was a puppy mill dog it is not surprising.    She will occasionally come out for a happy romp in the yard to fetch a ball, but it definitely takes a lot of coaxing.  Her crate is left open during the day if someone is home, but she will not leave it on her own.
I hope she becomes more adventurous as she is scared most of the time.   She has a great personality when she is not being afraid.  She is a funny goofy happy dog.

Medically she is doing fantastic.   She was spayed, had entropion correction surgery and that helped to save her eye.  Her eye looks so much better, but it is a little cloudy as she will likely have scar tissue from her ulcer.  She also had her nares enlarged and they look great.  She is getting medicated baths currently, twice a week and she is pretty easy to bathe.

She was doing well with house and crate training when she first got here, but now she has had multiple accidents in her crate.  She gets plenty of time outside, but I guess if she has to go, she just goes.  Fortunately she tries to not sit in it.

She walks on a leash, but is not very good at it yet.   She walks back and forth on both sides of the leader and gets in the person's way who is walking her.  With practice I'm sure she can do better.   She will not come when she is called, but she seems to understand her name.  She is not food motivated, which is new to me in my experiences with bulldogs.   So she gets lots of scratches and verbal praise.  Miss Dory is a beautiful gentle bulldog who needs someone to be patient with her to become her true self.
