Gus
Prior to applying to adopt, please be sure to read the process information for adoption, accompanied by the rules for adoption consideration: See Link: Adopt a Bulldog
Intake Date: Nov 18, 2016 Last Update: December 15, 2016 Date Available: 12/15/2016 (Moved to available) Age: 4 (approximately) DOB: We aren't sure of my DOB, but I'm here now and I'm still young and spunky! Gender: Male Weight: My foster mom says I'm solid, maybe somewhere between 50 & 60 pounds! Energy Level: Medium; I like chew toys; I also like to chase Wubba toy (Kong toy that squeaks) when you throw it in the yard. I'm not really great at bringing it back to you, but you should know it's because I love to play with and keep it away from you! Color & Markings: Brindle/white beautiful coat! Can go to a home with other dogs: I'm not so fond of other pups, so far I haven't found pleasure with my foster moms dogs. So, I need to be an only pet. Can go to a home with cats: My foster mom says I'm good with cats, and I don't show much interest! Good with kids: BBR Policy states no children under the age of 8+ so, my ideal home will have: Children ages 8+ Object Aggression: Besides keeping my Kong WUBBA from you so I can play with it all on my own, I don't have any signs of object aggression! Special Needs: I will need a high quality grain free/chicken free sensitive stomach food. It's best you talk to my foster mom about my current food and make some decisions about what is best for me. I could also benefit from daily joint supplments to keep me young and spry! I also really could use a probiotic which will help my sensitive stomach. ** I totally have a history eating small toys and other things that caused blockages. It's really important that whoever adopts me monitors stuff on the floor and keeps the house nice and clean. I can't do rope toys, any soft toys, Kong's are what you want to stick with, but really, you have to watch me with those as well! I have a tendancy to require surgery for blockages, but you can prevent that by simply keeping an eye on me. Be sure to read the awesome write up my foster moms wrote about me! Medications: Daily joint supplements, daily probiotic, monthly heartworm preventative, and monthly flea and tick preventative. Crate Trained: I am crate trained, but I don't love it. I do well in it when I'm in there, but you for sure aren't gonna convince me to go in on my own! House Trained: Yes, I'm fully potty trained! SCORE!! Physical Fence Required: I am currently being fostered in a home with a fence. My foster family isn't sure how I would be without a fence, so we would love to find a home that has a physical fence, but we will consider homes without. Adoption Donation: $575.00 |

My Ideal Home:
Hi, My name is Gus!!! Welcome to my story, and lets see if you are the PERFECT home for me!
I am about 4 years old, but that's just a guess since we don't have my exact birthdate! My foster moms (I am too much bulldog for just one, so BBR gave me THREE of them!) loved me as soon as they saw me (of course!) and they say that I am a loveable guy. I have been happy to meet lots of new people on my recent adventures, and everyone says that I am happy, sociable and give great sloppy kisses! My ideal home will have room and love for a younger spunky fella with lots of energy from time to time! I don't love my crate, but I don't mind being in it once I am. My ideal home will love to go on walks, buy me Kong toys (especially Kong WUBBA, those things are the best), I also will enjoy elk or deer antlers (treated for dogs), and a warm comfy place of my own. My new family would like to hire a professional trainer to help with my adjustment, it's not required, because I'm pretty much a vision of perfection, but I'm still a rescue pup and my background is not always known, so a great home with some structure and routine!

Hi! My name is Gus, and I am about 4 years old. In my foster home, there is a strange alien-type creature who they call a cat. I try very hard to play with it, but it doesn’t seem to like to play with bulldogs because usually it just runs away. Silly cat. I do not try to hurt him, but maybe he is intimidated by my beautiful masculine bull-doggy-ness. There is also another creature of my species, but different—a boxer dog they call Baxter. He is so much bigger than me! We have to stay in different parts of the house because it has only been two weeks, but this weekend we are going to walk together outside and get to be nose-to-butt! I am excited about getting to play with him. As you can see, I am a very confident guy. I am also very strong and if I want to go somewhere, I will try to push past whatever gets in my way. My foster moms say that they think I have never learned what the word “no” means, because I tend to go where I want and do what I want---and try to EAT what I want, which they say is probably what got me in trouble before. My foster moms are trying to teach me what is food and what is NOT food, and they give me great toys to chew on (I LOVE to chew!!!) but the toys are called King Kong or something, and are very strong. Even I can’t tear them apart. Foster moms always watch me when I am chewing on my toys---they think that they are watching me, but really I am watching THEM because I know my toys are so awesome that they want to play with them! When I let foster moms play with me and my toys, I will growl at them like I am going to be mean to warn them not to take my toy, but I am gentle and I do not bite. I just like my toys. Foster mom can even put her hand near my food when I eat, and I just keep eating. I had my first bath this week, and then foster mom dried me with a big towel (which I tried to eat, but after she told me no a few times, I gave up) then put some nice conditioner all over me, which made my fur so soft! She puts conditioner on my feet every few days, too, and in my face folds, which keeps me clean and moisturized in the cold weather. I am VERY smart. I have learned to go into the kennel when foster mom #1 asks me to, and if I have to go to the bathroom I never go inside; I will go to the door and let them know that I have to go. When I want something, I make a special sound that foster moms say sounds sort of doggy, sort of baby and sort of alien but it makes them laugh and love me even more. I do not bark much. I did bark at Baxter when I first saw him but I don’t even do that anymore. My foster moms feed me food that is good for my sensitive tummy. The doctor at VCA told them that I have a sensitive stomach but that I do not seem to have food allergies, so I am a pretty healthy guy even if I could maybe lose a little weight. I sit when someone offers me a special treat (sensitive tummy cookies!) but I get so excited that I can’t keep my butt on the floor very long! When I think I see food, or something I want, I will jump for it so stuff needs to be kept out of my reach. I am very happy with my foster moms and my toys and even with the alien cat, but I want so much to find my fur-ever home! Won’t you come and meet me, and think about adopting me as your very own furbaby? I promise you that I will love you and you will be glad you made me a part of your family!

Intake info: Gus comes to us from an owner surrender due to his second bowel obstruction in his short 4 years. His family loved him very much but felt it would be best to surrender him to get him the surgery he so desperately needed to save his life. Gus underwent ER surgery upon his arrival with us and it was found that some of his bowel was already necrotic causing some complications. Fortunately, he appears to be recovering well and we hope he continues to improve. He previously lived in a home with 7 kids and he has just the best personality. More to come...
