Shorty is ready for adoption! He will need a home that is willing to put in the time and energy to care for a puppy that is not fully house trained and needs some work on manners. It looks like someone tried to crop his ears (and did a terrible job at that) before he came to us so his ears stand up now. He's cute as a button and on the smaller side, but he's still young and full of energy. Don't expect him to be the stereotypical "lazy" bulldog you often hear about. This little guy needs someone who will take him on walks when the weather permits and allow him to get some of that puppy energy out. Shorty isn't bad per say with children - but because he has no manners and we want to ensure we set him up for success, we've decided that a home without kids would be best.
Intake info: Meet Shorty! Shorty came to us from a shelter a few weeks ago weighing in at only 29lbs. We are told he's 8-9 months. He was neutered last week. He's a sweet boy but pretty timid. His ears are scarred from a possible dog fight. But he's cute as a button.
9/27/2015 Update: Shorty is now about 36 lbs, but is still a little underweight and has a small frame compared to most English Bulldogs. We believe shorty came from either a puppy mill or back yard breeder and spent most of his life locked up in a crate. Because of this, he will relieve himself wherever he is, including in crate during the night.
Shorty is still 100% a puppy as far as his personality goes. He is very alpha and loves to antagonize the other dogs in his foster home. He would probably benefit from obedience training. Shorty will need a family with a lot of patience to work with him on obedience, crate and house training.
Shorty tends to be an ankle/foot/finger biter and plays rough and therefore will not be adopted to a family with children.
Shorty will be adopted on a training contract requiring obedience training once adopted so that he can learn manners and his adoptive family can learn how to work with him on his behaviors. It seems his previous owner allowed him to gnaw on their hands when he was a puppy and he still thinks that's ok.
