Tootsie

Intake Date: 8/18/2016
Last Update:  8/18/2016
Date Available: 10/10/2016
Age:  Approximately 1-year old.
DOB: Do I smell birthday cake? If so, my birthdate is whatever date there is cake! I was born on 7/9/2015
Gender: Female
Weight: The scale can only tell you what you weigh, Not who you are! I currently weigh 51 pounds!
Energy Level: I'm one, and I'm a bulldog. My energy is "go"!
Color & Markings: I am white and fawn. In other words, I am stunning!
Good with other dogs: So far so good, I think they are cool. The nice people who had me before I came in to BBR told them "Not dominant at all", and I get along with all types of dogs. I guess we will have to see what my foster parent(s) say about that when I arrive.
Good with cats: I don't know, I guess we will have to see what I think of these creatures. Seem kind of standoffish to me.
Good with kids: (Due to new policy set forth by the board of Buckeye Bulldog Rescue on 9/8/2016, Tootsie will be only considered for adoption with children ages 8+) I am good with kids! I like them a bunch. I have a great personality (I'm not being full of myself, it's what they tell me). I lived with young children prior to coming in and I did well with them they say. I'm sure that as they get to know me a bit more, they can tell us what I really think of kids!
Object Aggression: So far no signs of object aggression. I'm a dog though, so I like things.
Special Needs: This is probably going to be something we should talk about. I came in to BBR with some medical issues. Once I get my medical needs met and am feeling up to-par, I'm sure BBR can tell you what special needs I have. I of course would really need a family who isn't shy about spending money on quality grain-free diets. Also, it's important you keep my facial folds cleaned daily!
Medications:  Daily Joint Supplment, Heartworm Preventative, and the other medication(s) will be udpated as I move through the medical process.
Crate Trained: My previous home left me roaming when they weren't home. So, my new foster parents will have to see how I feel about crates when I show up at their crib.
House Trained:  Yep, I'm fully house trained-according to my foster. The good people who surrendered me said I would pee in this house, but we haven't seen that.
Physical Fence Required: In a perfect world your plan would be to have a fence, let me roam, take me on leash walks (when weather is appropriate), but we can talk about these things.
Adoption donation: $700.00

Update from my foster mom: 9/14/2016:

Personality wise, she’s a great funny dog. She wiggles her backside when she’s excited and does this marching like movement with her front paws. She’s energetic and will bolt out the door to do her business, but she does not go far. She’s very friendly. She likes kids. She gets along fine with my 2 dogs as long as there is not something else involved like food, toys or attention.
She is serious about balls and will not give them back when she fetches. She is also serious about playing and has nipped my hand when she tried to get a better grip on a toy in which we were playing tug-of-war. She likes to take the stuffing out of dog toys and has tried to eat the basket I keep them in, but she is good about stopping when she is told no.
Tootsie will give you five, but she’s not consistent, so we are working on that. She will sit on command and sometimes comes when she’s called. She loves to eat and if you are in the kitchen, she’s there too. Since she’s a little overweight, we are trying not to over feed her. She loves cherry tomatoes and carrots, so we have been giving those to her as snacks.
She is a good watch dog and barks whenever she hears the door or something happening that she’s unsure of. She will also bark when she’s outside and wants to come back in.

Tootsie still has urine scalding on her back legs. I think her fur is coming back slowly there. Tootsie had a suspected hooded vulva, but the vet ruled that out. Tootsie leads urine occasionally in her crate from time to time overnight, but she is house trained.

My ideal home would be:

I came in only yesterday. I feel like I'm a pretty laid back gal for being a female bulldog. However, I haven't felt very well for quite some time, so I may perk up a bit more and find my inner puppy once I'm feeling much better! My ideal home (so far, this could change) would be a home with a family that wants me as a companion and intends to spend life with me as a part of the family. I would love a home that understands that Bulldogs have unique and special needs that shouldn't be overlooked. My new home would purchase a high quality-grain free food from the Pet store and teach me how to eat on a feeding schedule. My new home wouldn't plan to leave me alone for an extended period of time, I am house trained, but hey, I can only hold my bladder for so long, just like you human! My new home would realize that I'm young and that proper training with a certified trainer could NEVER be a bad idea. I'm good, but hey, we all need to learn some manners from the experts! My new home and furever family would plan to love me and work with me, and know that they are my final stop. I don't like all this moving around. It causes stress in all creatures big and small.

Finally, my new home will have done their research, will explore their options, and will know that when they apply to be my family, that they are ready and able to love me for life!

This is a partial quote from the awesome people who surrendered Tootsie to BBR. "She's an absolutely amazing dog. She is house trained. Doesn't chew anything we leave her roaming when we aren't home and she's great. She's amazing with dogs of all sizes and kids. Amazing personality for a bulldog. Not dominant at all. It's so sad because she really is such an amazing girl and will make someone an amazing dog." -Surrendering Family

*Note from BBR team: Tootsie is reported by family surrendering her to have issues with the following: Urine Scaldings, Recessed Vulva, and due to this slight incontinence when she's sleeping (she is potty trained though). All of these things will be checked out when she is seen by the amazing vets at VCA. We will have a better idea of her medical needs as we get to know Tootsie.
