Zac is a high energy bulldog puppy who is a lot of fun. He sits on command and will also give you five. He will also fetch, but he won't bring the ball back to you.
We are working with him on learning new commands like down and drop. He is incredibly food crazy, so training with treats seems to work fairly well.
He is a puppy so he has been keeping busy destroying the plush dogs toys and nylabones. He hasn't tried to chew up things that are not dog toys and if you tell him no, he listens.
He is a curious, yet cautious puppy. He likes to see what you are doing and if you are on the floor doing it, he will sit in the way. He is cautious of new things and was completely baffled by roomba our vacuum.
He sleeps in his crate without a sound. He will bark if the other dogs bark or if someone comes to the door, but generally he is quiet. He will whimper sometimes if he wants something. He had one accident in his crate, but I think he was going through some stomach problem at the time.
He loves to go on walks and does pretty well. He will at times get in your way, but is easily redirected.
He is very very food crazy. He has a slow feeding maze bowl to help prevent him from eating too fast. If you have food in your hand and he is near he will be watching you like a hawk. He will sit patiently while you pour his food out, if you tell him to wait.
Zac is becoming more friendly and less busy exploring (looking for food) the longer he stay with us. Zac is a smart, sweet pup who will make a great companion.
4/19/16 Update: We have been calling him Jake since Zac is too close to my son's name. He seems to realize that's his new name and is pretty good about coming when called.
He was neutered on 4/1/16 and recovered quickly. Since then however he has stepped way back on house training. He gets plenty of opportunity to be outside and do his business, but seems when he has to go, he just goes. He has only had 2 accidents in his crate, so I would say he's is crate trained, just not house trained.
He has mellowed a little bit since getting neutered as well and wants to sit with us instead of exploring as much now. He has also learned down and can crawl for a treat. He is smart and an explorer so the new owner will need to keep their home puppy proofed. He has gotten into my opened cabinets twice now and made a mess with the contents. He's always looking for food, but enjoys gnawing on nylabones and antlers also.
4/26/16 Update: Jake is doing very well and is improving greatly in the house training. He has starting doing his business in the same area that my dogs do now and I have learned his schedule better to make sure accidents do not happen. He has gained a little weight and is now up to 41.4 lbs. He enjoys running and playing fetch, but still will not give them back to you. We are working with him on drop command. He's a smart guy I'm sure it won't take long.
